Mushroom Compost

Mushroom compost with added mulch is an excellent, nutrient-rich soil amendment for improving soil structure, moisture retention, and weed suppression. It works best for improving heavy clay or sandy soil, acting as both a fertilizer and protective layer, though it should be used in moderation due to potential salt content.

• Soil Amendment: High calcium content is excellent for, say, tomato plants, enhancing soil fertility while building better structure.

Important Considerations:

• pH Levels: Often alkaline, so avoid over-applying on acid-loving plants like blueberries or azaleas.
• Salt Levels: Can be high, so it is recommended to avoid planting delicate seedlings directly into pure mushroom compost.
• Usage Rate: Mix with existing soil, aiming for a 30% to 50% blend, rather than a 100% substitution.
